Background:
René Farrugia was born in 1764 (25 years old) to Aurélio and Maria Farrugia. His father was a toolsmith like him, and his mother is a schoolteacher. While he maintains a strong relationship with his mother, he and his father never got along due to René's tendency to question and get in trouble. This peaked when his father decided enough was enough and sent René under the wing of a master toolsmith, simply as a way to kick him out and avoid contact with his son. René was 15 at the time, and any letters attempted to write home always seemed to never reach it's destination. This lack of contact with his family for several years caused him to resent his father much more strongly, and greatly affected his willingness to rely on others. Once René graduated his apprenticeship (now age 22), he returned home to learn his father had passed away from a bad clam, and his mother was living alone. René decided to stay home for a while to help his mother around the house before deciding to finally leave the nest for good. From then, he has been searching for an opportunity to put his skills to use and make a living.
