Background:

Kasimir Rosenov was born to modest peasants living south of Novograd in 1886. His life was filled with trauma at an early age, witnessing brutal conflicts between Cossacks and imperial forces. After Cossacks burned down the nearby village in 1891, Kasimir and his parents fled as far west as they could manage, scraping together a living somewhere south of modern-day Fort Wanda.

By the time the Great War had started, Kasimir was still working the land with his father, his mother recently passing away from disease. Soldiers arrived on their doorstep and conscripted Kasimir and his father. His father, now in his late 40s with a crippled leg, was overall unfit for duty, but was conscripted nevertheless. Kasimir and his father were also given surnames for government documentation, as they did not have such a thing before. The name Rosenov was chosen, which came from Kasimir's grandfather's name, Rosen. Kasimir, however, does not truly recognize this as his name and simply goes by Kasimir. The father and son were split up on the road to the Swopian front, father going to one division, son to the other. Kasimir learned years later that the father had died of malnutrition only a couple weeks into conscription.

Kasimir was placed in the 7th Bloatian Infantry Company, a division made up exclusively of Faruns. Kasimir was given a trench shovel and given one simple task: dig. He was one of the few responsible for creating and managing the trench lines on the southern front, often digging at night to avoid the gunfire of the day. Being handy with the shovel, he was also responsible for burying the remains of his comrades.

Coming back to Faru after the war, Kasimir became a quiet type. He was aware of the Liberal Underground, but figured he had enough excitement for one lifetime. He would go from place to place, never settling down. At night, he often found himself digging trenches and tunnels to put his mind at ease. He was reminded of the safety and comfort of the night, as well as the fear and loathing of the day.
